100 Days of Plexus & Eating Clean Challenge

I kept seeing several of my friends posting about Plexus, so I decided to try it out.  It's been pretty awesome. I've lost a few pounds, and I have more energy and I sleep well at night.  The reason I started Plexus was because I wanted to lose weight and feel better.  While I've lost some, I really want to step it up a notch. I mean, if I am using these products to help me lose weight why not eat clean as well and accelerate that process. Today is Day One of eating clean and working out.

The hubs and I are joining the Birmingham Jewish Community Center (no, we aren't Jewish, but they have a really awesome gym, indoor & outdoor pool and lots of workout classes). I'm met the membership lady at 2 pm, and then The Hubs and I worked out for an hour.

I think if I am going to do this I should post photos, weights, and measurements on here.  I think posting these will help motivate me knowing that it is out there on the internet.

I've lost about 10 lbs since starting Plexus, but a week long trip to Hawaii and a long weekend at the in-laws (I absolutely love them, but healthy food isn't their thing) I've gained all 10 lbs back.  I've also been pretty inconsistent with Plexus since the beginning of June, so that changes today as well.  I am going to make sure I have enough Plexus on hand, I am drinking enough water, I am eating healthy, and I am exercising.  Pretty pissed at myself right now. 10 lbs back?!?!? Ugh. Of course, some of this might be excess water because of that time of the month, so I'm hoping in a few days I'll be down a few.  I tend to gain between 4-6 lbs of water weight before I start.  It is ridiculous.

DAY ONE:

Weight:
  * 174.6

Measurements:
  * Hips: 42"
  * Belly: 43" (widest part of me)
  * Waist: 39.5"
  * Breasts: 42"
  * Arms: 12"
  * Upper thigh 26"
  * Lower thigh 17"

Photos (YIKES! And sorry for the messy background)

Just to let you know a little about Plexus, in case you are wondering what in the heck it is.  There are several products that you'll see me mention: Plexus Slim, ProBio5, BioCleanse, and Boost.  The first 3 are called Tri-Plex combo.  You can see from the photo below.

Plexus Slim is a pink drink that was formulated for people with Type II diabetes, so it helps regulate blood sugar.  It also helps you lose weight by burning fat, and it helps keep cholesterol and lipids at healthy levels.

ProBio5 is a probiotic that features five extra strength strains of probiotics, added enzymes, intestinal flora, B6 and grape seed extract.  It supports the breaking down of hostile organisms that negatively impact your health.  Many people who suffer from sugar cravings, inexplicable fatigue, bloating, anxiety and "brain fog" have found this very helpful.  It also helps improve your sleep, which I have noticed a HUGE difference!

BioCleanse helps to detoxify, cleanse, energize, and enhance weight loss.  It also helps relieve occasional constipation.

Boost is one of the companions to Plexus Slim, and is formulated to energize your body.  It has a thermogenic blend of ingredients that helps to suppress hunger and enhance endurance through increased energy.  Currently, this is my favorite product!

Ok, now that you have a run down of what I'm doing.  I am posting this a day late, so this was all yesterday's progress. Tomorrow I will post today's.

I will eventually start to track my food on here, but at the moment I need to get this posted because I'm in a hurry.

I hope everyone's is having a great day!

NYC: Day 1, Part 1

I have realized that we did so much in New York City that I would have to break the trip into several blogs, which is good because I want to be a little more consistent in writing.  This series of blogs will detail my travel, and the thoughts I had during the trip.  The trip was perhaps one of the emotional of my life thus far.  When I say, "emotional" I do not mean terrible.  I mean I experienced the grand city of New York and all the feelings that come with visiting a city with so many of it's own emotions.

In late April I found out a band I had grown up listening to with my parents, The Monkees, where going on tour again.  I had to go see them because I hadn't seen them since the 1980's at Oak Mountain Amphitheater on the lawn, when there actually was a lawn. They weren't scheduled to play in my city, so The Husband suggested we go see them in NYC.  I, of course, agree because I haven't been to NYC since 1997. We book everything, and this past Friday we lift off to the Big Apple.

Our trip began at 6 am by leaving our house, picking up our friend, who we invited to come to the concert with us, and heading to the airport.  We land in NYC, which is in the middle of a massive heat wave, around 11 am, and proceed into the hottest cab ride of my life.  The Husband, the awesome man that he is, used our Hilton points to book The Waldorf Astoria for us.  We get an early check in, have a drink, make sure the bags are in the room, and we are off to our first destination, The Statue of Liberty.  In 1997, I was only able to visit Ellis Island, so my goal was to go see Lady Liberty first hand this trip. It was a success.

On a random note, walking into the subway felt like the 9th layer of hell because of the heat wave.  I live in the South, and I've never experienced heat and humidity like that! Sorry, I digressed.

If you've never been to Liberty Island or Ellis Island, you travel by ferry, and from the back of the ferry you can view the NYC skyline.

For me, not having been to NYC since 9/11, it was bittersweet seeing the new NYC skyline from the ferry and Liberty Island.  The resilience and determination of New Yorkers to rebuild after such a tragic day in 2001 was demonstrated by seeing "Freedom Tower", which is almost complete.  Yet, I couldn't help but place the Twin Towers in the skyline and think about that heinous day in 2001.

If you are old enough, you know EXACTLY where you were and what you were doing September 11, 2001; much like my parents generation knowing exactly where they were when JFK was assassinated.

On September 11, 2001, I was in Chapel Hill, NC.  I was supposed to be in classes at UNC, but I had woken up with a cold and had decided not to attend classes that day.

While laying in bed watching The Price is Right, my phone rang, and I immediately answered because it was a friend who rarely called me. Here is our brief conversation:

Friend: "Are you seeing this?"
Me: "Seeing what? The Price is Right?"
Friend: "Lindsay, change the channel!!!!!"
Me: "To which channel?"
Friend: "ANY CHANNEL! YOU WILL SEE!!!!!!"
Me: "Ok, ok."

I pick up the remote, **click**.  "Oh my God!", which was followed by silence.  At this point, the second tower had already been hit, and then I watched both towers engulfed in flames before the South tower crumbled, which I've just read created seismic waves and could be felt over 200 miles away.

Personal thought: I am still amazed that The Price is Right remained on that morning when every other channel had broken with regular programming.

Needless to say, I was glued to the television the rest of the day, and week for that matter.  Filled with anger, fear, sadness and shock I thought about how terrifying it must have been on the planes flying into the towers, Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania.  My main thought, besides the one we all had that day, "Why?", was about the people in the planes.  Perhaps because they knew, at least on several of the planes, that they would never see their loved ones again.  I remember saying prayers for everyone who perished that day, and prayed that survivors would be rescued.  As I looked at this forever changed skyline, thoughts from that nightmarish day were resurrected.

**I promise not all of my NYC blogging will be this heavy**

I clearly haven't visited my own blog in about a year.  Seems about right. Anyway, I'm embedding our Christmas card.  Shutterfly.com will give me $10 off my next order if I do so.  I'm down for getting $10 free.

BTW, UA is back in the  BCS NCG. Whoop.

Oh so NOW you claim the BCS broken!!!

First, let me say, "Roll Tide!"  Alabama and LSU are headed to NOLA for the BCS National Championship game, and of course, people are complaining.  Mainly, Oklahoma State.  I actually think Stanford has a better case than Okie State.

Let's run through this.  Alabama (#2) is beaten by LSU (#1) in overtime.  This, luckily, only drops Alabama to #3, and puts Oklahoma State at #2.  Oklahoma State then loses to unranked Iowa State in double overtime.  Stanford (#4) loses to Oregon (#7).  Let's see here.  Alabama loses to #1 team, Stanford loses to the #7 team, and we're supposed to believe that Oklahoma State, who loses to an UNRANKED team, deserves to be in a National Championship game?  Hmmmm, I'm with Nick Saban on this one (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/story/2011-12-04/final-coaches-ballots/51647440/1?fb_comment_id=fbc_10150448817269240_20708006_10150449742794240#f30dee13d96746e).  If it wasn't Alabama I'd want Stanford.  However, neither OK St. or Stanford would win against LSU, and Russell Shepard of LSU and Brad Smelley of Alabama agree.

Russell Shepard, "Bra we would #smash OKST......they coach better calm down."

"I have no time for Mike Gundy. Dude just claimed Ok state would score 35 points on LSU..pass me what your drankin coach"

Anyway, moving right along.  Oklahoma State did put up an impressive routing of the Sooners.  I give them props for that, but the loss to an unranked team is just sad.  What's even worse is their use of a tragedy to claim the right to be in the NCG.  As Patton Smith said, "I'll take it a step further: Anyone wanting to play the sympathy card in a discussion about college football . . . I'll meet you at the Krispy Kreme on McFarland."  In addition, "Life is filled with problems and you are Not the only one who has them. Leaders understand this and push past Lifes problems. Quitters allow Lifes problems to control them." ~ Vincent Ortega, Jr.  Now, that quote was about business and life, but I find that it applies nicely to this tragedy argument.

The Pokes are now boycotting the BCS NCG, and numerous people across the country are complaining about the rematch claiming the BCS is broken.  People, it's been broken, and the SEC has been saying it for YEARS!  In fact, in 2008 the SEC along with the ACC tried to have the plus 1 conversation, but no one wanted that conversation.  Six SEC National Championships later, which I am including this NCG because either way it's an SEC win, you're claiming it's broken when a team that lost to an unranked opponent doesn't get the bid.  We haven't liked the system for a while now, glad to see you're finally coming around. I guess you're ok when an SEC team gets crapped on like Auburn did in 2004, but anyone outside of the SEC and you change your tune and want to boycott.

Does anyone see how 5th grade this is? "Hmphf! Stomp! My team didn't get in because the BCS is broken! Even though there was a chance to discuss a change in 2008! The SEC is a big bully! Waaaaaaahhhh Waaaaahhhh"

Yawn, go ahead boycott the game Okie State.  I'll be cheering for Stanford anyway. I'd love to see a nerd school whip up on y'all.

These are a few of MY favorite things!

Ok, I had a completely different blog for today, but I re-read it this morning and found it to be incoherent and circular.  Therefore, I've scratched it for the day; maybe tomorrow I can reconstruct that mess.  It was almost as bad as the first press release I wrote for my faux political campaign for Artur Davis!  YIKES!

I'm super obsessed with finding deals on clothing, shoes, and accessories.  Let's start with shoes.

Even though I have no interest in hanging out with a Kardashian, shoedazzle.com is pretty dang awesome.  They've got Ah-MAZING shoes for $40.  Where can you get an amazing pair of brand new boots that are stylish for $40?  Oh that's right! SHOEDAZZLE!  When you sign up, you go through a series of photos so they can figure out what your style preferences are, and then they give you a new crop of shoes to choose from each month if you want to purchase something.  They also have accessories and a daily dazzle deal.  Overall, I give it an A -.  It gets an A- because of my warning.  WARNING! Once you've purchased your 1st pair of shoes, they begin to charge your card for the $40 per month unless you click on "Skip Month" by the 5th of the month.  You may want to put an alarm on your phone! If you forget, they give you credits for shoes or whatever you want.  However, if you don't have the money in your account, well you are SOL; again, phone alarm to remember to click on "Skip Month".  A plus is that you can invite friends so you can earn free shoes.  Soooooo, go sign up! I have a shoe obsession!!!!!

http://www.shoedazzle.com/invite/yuatxet5d

No, really, go sign up and purchase a pair already.

My favorite hodge podge discount site:

www.RueLaLa.com

On the Rue, you need to be a member to start shopping!  However, just click on "Not a Member" and sign up.  Rue hosts all sorts of different sales.  You can find DKNY, Betsy Johnson, and Michael Kors too!  Lenox china or Waterford crystal?  Yup, they are on there too!  The other day I bought a Spanx Bra on the Rue!  Yes, they make bras now! And they are FABULOUS!!!!!!!!

Back fat be gone! Bra-llujah is here! I swear, it leaves NO squishy back fat! Ah-mazing!  Seriously, if you guys aren't going to get me a personal trainer for my birthday and Christmas, go ahead and buy me the entire line that SpanX makes!  ThanX!

Fall & Winter things I like . . .

Do you HATE being cold?  Me too!  My Mom bought me a Mountain Hardware long jacket last year for Christmas, and I could not be happier!

Also, Mountain Hardware's Women's Posh Dome hat is soooo super warm.  I want one in every color!

Don't like cold feet? ME NEITHER!  For around the house, I prefer spa socks, or "squishy socks" as we call them in the Autrey household.  No particular brand name here; just go to the Dollar Tree and pick up some! It's totally worth it!

Now, as for house shoes, I just bought a pair of Minnetonka moccasins.  I freaking love them!  On our way back from the Apple Festival, which really had nothing to do with apples, up in Ellijay, GA we pulled into a cowboy store for trusty husband to try on some cowboy boots.  I still have no idea why he wanted to try them on because he literally doesn't have anything that would go with cowboy boots! But hey, he wanted to stop!  Anyway, I'd worn the WORST pair of Target ballet shoes to the "festival".   My feet were killing me, and I came across these puppies:

They made my feet sing!!!!!!  I plan on wearing these to my own funeral; they are that awesome!  I highly recommend you purchase a pair! I think I paid around $40 for them.

Now cute, comfortable and warm, there is no better shoe than the UGG.  Yes, some people say they are UGGly, but I think they are cute.  More importantly, they are comfy and warm. Ok, so I can't find a picture of the awesome ones that my sister bought me for Christmas in 2009, so I'm gonna show you a pair I'd purchase if I had the money! ;D

They look super comfy, and super warm! Yay!  Well, that about wraps up today's post.  When it starts warming up in the Spring I'll post Favorite Things Spring Edition! :D  Have a great weekend!

22 Things I've Never Done

Ok, so I had NO idea that my awesome friend from college had a blog until yesterday! She posted about our weekend in Nash-Vegas for another college friend's bachelorette party post-wedding; we just couldn't make the party happen before the wedding! Anyway, she sent everyone a link to the blog she posted about the weekend, and of course, I proceeded to read through her posts! And I come across her "22 Things I've Never Done" post.  So, I've decided to take her challenge and post 22 Things I've never done.

1. I've never gone to Greece - must remedy this ASAP.

2. Never been to an Alabama post-season game and had them win.  (If Oklahoma St. loses to OK, and some how we get put into the BCS National Championship game, no, I will NOT be attending! Superstitious here! This is for you Rudder in the Red Zone!)

3. I've never been to an In-N-Out burger joint!  (Running Peanut, I had to steal!)

http://www.in-n-out.com/default.asp

4. I've never had such a hard time thinking about things I HAVEN'T DONE!

5. I've never met my step-sister! My Mom has been married to my Step-father for, oh, over 10 years and we've never met!  Weird!

6.  I've never been on the sidelines of Bryant Denny Stadium (BDS) during a game.

7. I've never been sky diving - and I plan on never doing this!  Terrified of heights!

8. I've never had a child!

9. I've never been to Thomas Keller's French Laundry in CA.  Please feel free to take me and pay for me!

10.  I've never been to a game in "The Swamp".

11. I've never owned a standard poodle, but I SO WANT ONE!

12. I've never met Anthony Bourdain, but I would probably make a total fool out of myself if I ever did meet him. No, it's not his looks!  It's his flippin' hilarious attitude!

13. I've never dropped everything I was doing and bought a ticket to Europe for a long weekend.

14. I've never seen the Red Square or Kremlin in person.

15. I've never taken public transportation in Albania - no kidding super scary to look at much less ride!

Just to give you an idea in case you want to visit Albania this will help: http://www.matinic.us/albania/publictransport.html

16. I've never been to Los Angeles and seen a celebrity there!

17.  I've never attempted to learn Chinese.

18.  I've never eaten a goats head - apparently, these are popular in Albania.  I did a search for a photo of a goat head on a rotisserie, and this is what showed up on Google . . . seems about right!

19.  I've never been to Ramma Jamma across from BDS - shocking, I know!

20.  I've never won the lottery! Sad, maybe one day!

21.  I've never seen The Fray live.

22.  I've never  learned how to drive a stick shift!

This took me a while.  I really didn't think it would take me over an hour to write 22 Things I've Never Done!  Whew!  That was stressful! LOL

They are Penn State . . . And I am so thankful, it's NOT Bama

Well, Saturday November 5th, my sister's 22nd birthday and the day of "The Game of the Century", Jerry Sandusky is arrested for molesting young boys (at times in the Penn State football locker room). From there, Penn State begins its largest scandal its history. So far, Joe Pa, the head coach of the Penn St. football program for over 40 years, and the president of Penn St., Graham Spanier, have been fired.

There are two opinions on this scandal. First, Joe Pa knew and had a moral and legal obligation to report Sandusky's abuse to the police and because he did not he should be fired. Second, there is the opinion that Joe Pa reported it to the university, and the board should have let him step down at the end of the season, which he was planning on doing.

After watching this train wreck, I feel compelled to give my opinion. Now, I have not read the entire grand jury report; mainly because I hate reading legalese. However, I have read the timeline from the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/09/penn-state-scandal-timeline-jerry-sandusky_n_1084204.html), and I have had discussions with people who have read the grand jury report so I will reference them when and if it is necessary.

My first reaction to reading the timeline is this particular part, "1998 – Victim 6 is taken into the locker rooms and showers when he is 11 years old. When Victim 6 is dropped off at home, his hair is wet from showering with Sandusky. His mother reports the incident to the university police, who investigate.

Detective Ronald Schreffler testifies that he and State College Police Department Detective Ralph Ralston, with the consent of the mother of Victim 6, eavesdrop on two conversations the mother of Victim 6 has with Sandusky. Sandusky says he has showered with other boys and Victim 6's mother tries to make Sandusky promise never to shower with a boy again but he will not. At the end of the second conversation, after Sandusky is told he cannot see Victim 6 anymore, Schreffler testifies Sandusky says, "I understand. I was wrong. I wish I could get forgiveness. I know I won't get it from you. I wish I were dead."

Jerry Lauro, an investigator with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, testifies he and Schreffler interviewed Sandusky, and that Sandusky admits showering naked with Victim 6, admits to hugging Victim 6 while in the shower and admits that it was wrong.

The case is closed after then-Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar decides there will be no criminal charge."

So let's get this straight, before the janitor AND the graduate assistant ever witness Sandusky molesting boys the police have already investigated him for child molestation, and did NOTHING!?!?!? Obviously, the university police just let it go because even if they couldn't have indicted him with Victim's 6 information, they could have put Sandusky under surveillance. I mean, it wouldn't have take long for them to find him with another little boy! Instead, they let this continue. Was Sandusky such a figure on the Penn St. campus that he was able to get away with whatever? And it has taken 13 years for him to finally be indicted.

OK, moving right along. Let's go to the graduate assistant, who was 28 when he witnessed Sandusky sodomizing Victim 2. Ok, you're 28 years old and you witness this and the first thing you do is call you Dad? And your Dad advises you to tell your direct superior instead of calling the police? Ok, so I'll give you the benefit of doubt that you were totally freaked out by what you saw, and the first person you call is your father for advise. Ok, now Dad, at this point has an amazing moment to teach his son, and what does he do? He tells his son to report it to his superior coach, Joe Pa? I'm sorry, I just don't understand this. Why wouldn't you tell your son to report it to the police immediately and to Joe Pa? This isn't a football moment that needs to be reported to a coach and only a coach. This is something that needs to be reported to the POLICE!!!! That's my major problem with Mr. Grad Assistant. In addition, they have fired Joe Pa and just put Mr. Grad Assistant on administrative leave? Can you say, "DOUBLE STANDARD!"?

Next up, Joe Pa's involvement with Mr. Grad Student's report. Here is the part I did read from the grand jury report, lol.
The graduate assistant and his father decided that the graduate assistant had to promptly report what he had seen to Coach Joe Paterno ("Paterno"), head football coach of Penn State. The next morning, a Saturday, the graduate assistant telephoned Paterno and went to Paterno's home, where he reported what he had seen.

Joseph V. Paterno testified to receiving the graduate assistant's report at his home on a Saturday morning. Paterno testified that the graduate assistant was very upset. Paterno called Tim Curley ("Curley"), Penn State Athletic Director and Paterno's immediate superior, to his house the very next day, a Sunday, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy.

It goes on to say that the graduate assistant was called into a meeting with Curley and Senior VP for Finance and Business, Gary Schultz, and that Paterno was not even at the meeting, which to me makes sense because he did not witness Sandusky himself.

Ok, so Joe Pa's failure to report it to the police is obvious here. It is a complete failure on his part, but I have to wonder because of his age and the culture of time he grew up in maybe he thought he was doing the correct thing. This is NOT to excuse the failure to report; it's just a perspective that we may want to consider. Think about it. He is 84 years old; born in 1926. The culture of how inappropriate things were handled has changed DRASTICALLY over his lifetime. Maybe he was confused on what to do in 2002. In 2002 he was 75 years old. I mean, both my grandmothers were still with it when they were 75, but I doubt that they would have understood how times had changed. I say this because I've heard one of my grandmothers make completely inappropriate comments about things, but it was honestly because she just didn't know any better.

In addition to him maybe just not knowing how to handle it appropriately, he probably thought that if he did report it the university would find a way to fire him because he was the one who hired Sandusky. Maybe Joe Pa really just wanted to coach football, and was afraid of that being taken away. Of course, at this point it has been taken away and his reputation destroyed forever. I guess I'm just having a hard time reconciling his image of integrity with this obvious failure. I really don't think he thought about it maliciously; I truly think he just didn't know how to handle it in the appropriate way. Do they require all state officials/staff to know the laws of reporting sexual abuse? And if so, how often do they update those people on how the laws have changed? Again, none of this is to EXCUSE the obvious failure to report. It's just an perspective.

Moving along, Curley, Schultz and Spanier. Yea, they are completely not credible, which the grand jury reported. The fact that Spanier has a background in sociology and marriage and family counseling revolts me so much I think I would spit on the man. At the VERY least, Mr. Grad Assistant & Joe Pa have backgrounds in football not MARRIAGE AND FAMILY COUNSELING!?!?!? How do you with a clear conscious hear that "Jerry Sandusky in the football building locker area in the shower [] with a younger child and that they were horsing around in the shower" and not think that something is WRONG!?!??! And want to report that to the police to prevent more children being hurt and put into counseling??? I think all of these men are getting exactly what they deserve in this situation.

Finally, none of my opinions here are meant to diminish the true point of this scandal, which is that children were hurt. We must remember them, and pray for them. But we must also pray for the Penn State community. Those who had nothing to do with this, and just want their school's integrity to be restored. To the players of the Penn State football team who have been affected deeply by this train wreck by having a man they thought was of the highest integrity fall from grace in such a manner. I feel like everyone that is emotionally attached to Penn State tradition is a victim of Sandusky now, not only the children who were directly affected. I pray that Penn State recovers from this scandal as soon as possible, and ushers in a new era of class and integrity. With that said, I'll post a nice little video from a friend of mine who is Penn State alumni.

Also, be watching for Rudder in the Red Zone! She'll have her opinions on this as well! ;D

**** UPDATE****

I just found this, and I totally agree.  When in doubt, blame the media, lawyers and society! LOL

http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2011/penn-state-reveals-lack-of-transparency-in-college-football/
